Disable S mode without a Microsoft account. - Microsoft Community

I have a lot of computers that come in and they are not all assigned to someone so therefore no Microsoft account. These machines are for remoting purposes only and we do not wish to link any email information on them. We will not be using any other account to disable S Mode. We need it disabled so we can install our in house created applications and Chrome. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Hi Brendan Provided you use the steps above to remove the Microsoft Account and switch to a local account, there would be no connection to that account left on the device.

The onlu problem with doing this with windows 11 is that it will sign in to onedrive account, and them sync all the content to the machine you are setting up. I was just visiting a client and found that she was setting up a bunk of Windows 11 laptops. Some of them are setup with her microsoft account, some with local windows account's. But all have the onedrive's and store accounts synced with her office account, because she had to sign in to turn off S Mode and it automatically synced her account.

This seems like a huge security hole to me; how do you protect yourself from this. It is. Once again MS seems intent to make it extremely hard for the partners and resellers who have to sell their stuff to end users. It's just just like activating Office. Why is that so difficult now? Imagine trying to deploy 30, 40, 50 PCs needing a separate MS account for each one. Newsflash MS; It's ridiculous. We stage and set up these before deploying, not knowing who will be using it.

This whole MS account process is a joke. Leave that for the home users, sure, but give us another option please. Whatever happened to just buying a product key and activating it?

Why is that not an option any more? Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. Search the community and support articles Windows Windows 10 Search Community member. Brendan Mcallister. I have the same question Report abuse.

There is no way to disable S Mode without a Microsoft Account, because that can only be done by accessing the Microsoft Store. To get around that, you can create one Microsoft Account to use on those PC's, then log into the store to switch out of S Mode. Then in the Settings App, go to Accounts - Your Info, there will be one of two options available, 'Sign in With a Local Account' or 'Stop using this account to automatically log into Apps' Choosing either of those options would remove your Microsoft Account form the PC and it would switch back to the original local account.
